They had huge segments of their brain devoted to smell, sight, and low frequency hearing, so it would be impossible to hide from one.
Humans need high-caliber weapons to stop big game, and they have to be applied to the head. Elephants and rhinos can topple cars no problem, there's no reason a T-rex wouldn't be able to do the same.
An ordinary town without a SWAT team would get eaten by a T-Rex. Fire department and police don't have the weapons to stop something like that. Pokemon are the same way: if Ash could tank 10 hyper beams before dying, imagine how many a T-rex could withstand.
