What makes LGPE gen 7? It can't interact with any part of gen 7. Meltan and Melmetal can't even be acquired in it. It's acquired in Go. The only precedence for that would be Ranger, but even then, you can't use it, it's just data for the egg. That would put it more in favor of being gen 8 than 7.

Mind you, that even being playable, which I think is something that happened to Munchlax, their full functionality wouldn't be realized until the first games of the gen. Can we count LGPE as full functionality?

To me, there will never be a point in calling it gen 7 because it can't interact with gen 7. What is it, then? It is an entity that has not been previously defined by our generation structure. Being outside the currently running generation, but not a new generation.

But they're calling their other set of games Core anon (even stressed heavily that LGEP and Core VIII were not alike and that Core VIII was exactly like SM and XY in style). It's quite clear to anyone with half a brain, Game Freak do not place as much stock in it as the do with their upcoming game, or they wouldn't have been so quick upon reveal to say everything they did with VIII. THEY know its spin-off tier, but judging by how TPCi's efforts were selling worse, year-on-year till they killed them, they're avoiding calling this a spin-off like the plague, to avoid tarring it with the spin-off brush.
