>Don't act like you would have known any better if you had his upbringing. At no point do I say his character is unreasonable. I only say it is bland.
>Lance lectures him before the 7th badge. This is right, so saying it was "way earlier" in the game is irrational. It holds true that Silver makes a huge character turn because of one speech, though. He doesn't seem to question anything prior to this, he just ignores what's happening around him. The Victory Road fight does influence this, but it's not really making anything happen, it's just making him think about what Lance said again, so much so that after defeat he just reaffirms that it's what Lance says that gives him guidance to change, nothing else.
>If you paid attention to his dialogue, you would know that he is confused and in denial before beginning to reconsider his ways.Denial? Yes. Confusion? No, he just flat out ignores anything that conflicts with his views, rather than trying to figure out why - to the point where he acts like he won even after losing.
>And it's not like the turns into a goody-two shoes either, he remains a reserved and serious person even when he learns to be kinder. That doesn't mean that his character development isn't one of the most basic forms of "bad -> good" slider. He's still ultimately just going from having corrupt morals to having just morals. There's nothing else to it.
