both takes more than 20 minutes and is boring as fuck
people who reset for starter IVs, shiny hunt, etc. need to own up to the fact their shit is time consuming, not challenging, and they don't 'deserve' more out of the game for putting more into it
compare this to fighting games, etc. – SSBU gives you your choice of playable characters right out of the gate, and you 'earn' your competency by practicing the playstyle – i.e. battling, the very thing you want to do
a game like MGSV (first thing to come to mind) where the online competitive involved some Pokemon-esque bullshit (e.g. those 'missions' you'd send your characters on to get minerals, etc.) where the purpose is to build up a base and then defend it, still gives you the bulk of your rewards for actually doing exactly that
i'd be fine with IVs if they could be improved by battling; hidden abilities should be something you can 'unlock' as you battle with a pokemon, etc.
put another way: no one exploits cheat codes to automatically get 8 badges, to the hall of fame, etc. because the fun of getting there is what you have to do to get it – i.e., battle. people exploit cheats/hacks/etc. to build up a custom team because the shit they have to do to get to them is tedious and boring as fuck, and has nothing in relation to what you're building up to do
