Is jealous of you and thinks that everyone likes you better, is upset when you get to choose your starter first. Says he’ll prove to everyone that he can be the better trainer and will be your rival, and chooses the Pokémon with the type advantage.
Becomes increasingly distant/aggressive, sometimes you see him in odd places. (You just beat some evil team grunts and all of a sudden run into your bro/sis). Takes losing to you poorly, is snide and overly proud if he beats you. Eventually his tone becomes more dismissive. One of his mons is an “evil team” Pokémon.
It’s revealed that he joined the evil team when he heard you had fought against them in (some random early evil team counter).
Eventually he realizes what horror the evil team is going to make happen and defies the evil team leader, gets shoved down and laughed at by evil grunts after he tries to stop him. You run up to him, he apologizes for everything and says he was just jealous of your ability as a trainer and wanted you to see him as strong. You forgive him and then you both battle evil team leader and grunts (4 Pokémon v 4 Pokemon, 2 yours 2 his, 2 evil leaders 1 for each grunt)
