They were rushed and never received a sequel or third version as GF rushed gen 7 out for 20th anniversary. Consolotation prize is ash grenonja and zygarde in alola with no reason to be there. Unless they do a third version which I doubt they will or remake any time soon. That’s not how this works. Here’s what I see: /vp/ will be hype for a game right up until release date, and then immediately dislike it and focus on all of its flaws and lack of content. Meanwhile, the _second_ to last game to come out will begin to be looked upon more fairly, which could range from high praise to simply “not being so bad”. It will be interesting to hear the general consensus on SM once we’re a year into gen 8.

Gen VI is literally the lowest point the pokemon franchise ever went. I've been here since Gen V and I've gotta say that I've thought of Black 2 as the peak of the series and I remember picking up Y and that Route 1 being a straight line kek
It was an immediate red flag and the rest of the game being filled with interesting areas with fucking nothing in them was a huge disappointment. Also zero post game and even if they made a Z I doubted they'd even use those areas for anything still.

XY is no unanimity between pokemon fans. Most just ignore it or acknowledge it exists. Not hate nor love it. Far, far different than the initial statement of "come gen 8 people will praise XY as the best thing that happened in the pokemon series" that kicked off this whole dumb discussion.

XY was very comfy, and not much else. Being able to build whatever team you wanted, interact with them in Amie, and just breeze through the game was a nice experience. The novelty of 3D Pokemon helped it a lot. There's just no replay value in it since the actual content and difficulty are so lacking.

Sun and moon did improve upon XY imo, although only slightly. The only downgrade is the festival plaza which I dislike quite a bit. Overall I think both games were pretty meh and I don't like/dislike one over the other.
