I said it felt out of place because it was one of the three non gen 1-2 pokémon in the movie, and the only one who was neither a background mon (Weavile) nor one of protagonists (Zeraora). Never implied it was a bad thing or made the movie worse.

And it was distracting exactly because it was one of the FEW non Kanto/Johto mons. In M20 we had a bunch like Piplup, Luxary, Lucario and the edgy rival's mons, so no one in particular felt out of place.
