I mean, they actively went against their own ideas there. Sun and Moon are always seen as opposites but they stated in an interview that they didn't use WaterBlue because they didn't like the confrontational ideas it brought up when contrasted with FireRed.
I think Plus and Minus is kind of silly unless there is some reason for it but I wouldn't say it's absolutely out of the question.
