Smash took 3-4 years to make. LGEP was whipped together in 2 years with much less budget. A 1:1 remake of a 20 year old game and intended purpose to increase the usage of pokemon go. Which it did. Pokemon go made 775 million in 2018.

Doesn't matter. This is a similar situation to EA getting pissy their game sold only 10 million.

This was supposed to be a pokemon game that captured the mobile gaming market. It was supposed to be a phenomenon. Instead it's a flop in the grand scheme of the franchise.
Nintendo stock dropped 9% on the release day of Let's Go.

It depends on whether the higher-ups see LGPE as a flop or not and how much trust they have in Masuda as director. There are companies who fire someone after a flop, even if that same person gave them success before.

This game was pure profit for them and they didn't rate it as highly as other games they've coming (or they never would have revealed info on the 2019 game at the LGEP reveal). Can't wait for the announcement where they say due to the favourable reception, Let's Go! Johto is in production to launch at a later date.

All we know is they were 5th and 6th on the November NPD for north america.

He'd be fucked it was a completely catastrophe in sales, but as it stands, LGPE sold pretty well.
It's probably going to be on par with third versions, so its sales are pretty decent for a mainline pokémon game (and would be amazing for other game franchises).

So expect more Let's Go games in the future, but don't worry about it replacing the "core" mainline games like XY/ORAS/USUM/etc.
