This is why fangames like Polished Crystal are so great. They update the mechanics as much as possible (like phys/spec split and new typings) as well as did a lot of QOL stuff. So you can go back and play your favorite games, but not have to deal with all the issues that were present back then. I seriously recommend checking out those kinds of QOL focused hacks.

I recommend this too, currently playing through red plus plus. The wondertrade is crazy op but the game is clean and fresh enough that this is the furthest I've payed through red in ages.

I replayed the previous games a lot, minus gen 5.
