What exactly do people mean by good? Because sun and moon are great games that required a skip cutscene option to be better. XY on the other were not very good due to them being too easy.

At least the 3ds games have the best multiplayer though which is something people here take into consideration.

My own reasoning is that Pokemon has so much fucking potential and it's all thrown out of the window. There's so many unique Pokemon/Pokemon designs already and the concept in of itself is great. But what's missing is a) a fun and challenging game to accompany that and b) a cohesive world that isn't held back by limitations, towns are still about 5 houses big and the pacing is as grating and linear as ever, not to mention that I don't like the chibi mobile style they're going for in the last few games one bit. As for other Monster Catching games, none of then evoke my interest as much as Pokemon because they go for completely different things. In Digimon you catch digital monsters, in SMT/Persona you catch demons, in Yokai Watch you catch Yokai. But Pokemon is the only big one where you catch their equivilant of animals. I don't want an open world game, what I want is a game that is not only on a bigger scope, given that there's no excuse for some things to still be around when there's no limitations to grids and how big a region can be but a game that encourages exploration (basically saying make the games less linear), catching and battling on equal footings while being at least somewhat challenging. But who the fuck am I kidding, it's not gonna happen, at least never officially.

Technically Smash is third party, given that it's developed by Sora LTD and Bandai Namco. Sakurai is only asked to make new games if a new system comes out. In turn he gets to use Nintendo characters however he wants. The only major thing Nintendo have recently affected was them picking the DLC. So the new Smash trying to pander to as many people as possible is more a decision on his part. Agree on Mario Odyssey though. Still like BotW even if it was flawed, though a good sequel could eradicte those flaws while expanding on what's there.

I really like the idea of a personalized online gym people can fight. Maybe the means of adding more trainers and obstacles would come from reaching milestones in game, like when you beat a gym you get the ability to add that gym's obstacle to your own. Or ever 20 Pokemon you add to your dex, you can place extra trainers or give pre-existing trainers extra Pokemon (Pokemon you have to raise obviously).

This is something I've been thinking about lately. It would be nice to be able to mix and match which 8 gyms you'd like to beat in order to reach your goal. I think this would greatly increase replayability, and it shouldn't be hard to implement with the Switch's capabilities. I would only hope that other great things aren't sacrificed to accommodate more gyms.

Over 100 new normal Pokémon. Not formes. Not Pokémon with forms. Not Pokémon based entirely around a gimmicky move or ability. Not legendary or mythical Pokémon. Just at least have 100 normal Pokémon.
Pokémon now continue to gain experience at level 100. Instead of leveling up you are given the option to modify your Pokémon IVs for realsies one point at a time.
A non clunky engine
An old school tcg videogame. You buy it and you own it. If avoiding cannanalization with tcgo is needed just use older format(s)

Regional forms are okay, but I think time spent making them would be better spent making actual new pokemon, even if it's some sort of "it takes 5 regional form's dev time to make 1 new mon". In addition, I can't help shake the feeling that this is going to be another concept they'll throw under the carpet, like Megas and Z-Moves - if that's the case, Alola is going to stick out like a sore thumb from now on. we are the vocal minority, we want to see timeless classics made. everyone else just wants something that they can fuck around with for a while and move on with their lives

honestly though i want to see game freak make one game this time around and add on to it over time instead of just making a whole new game, each newer gen after that is just essentially dlc and you can travel freely from region to region. it would cut down on the time that game freak has to spend on each generation as they dont have to re add all the models and whatever else they do, just add the new stuff and ship it with new features and pokemon for like 30 bucks or so. probably a terrible idea in practice but hey its something
