>>37356869I used to "hate" Ruby and Sapphire because they always stood out to me as the one generation I just never liked. I didn't like most of the new Pokemon compared to the previous gens (and it was the first to go for the "all new" type of game where most old Pokemon just didn't exist anymore, which was hugely jarring for me as a kid.) I didn't like Hoenn as a region, didn't like most of the characters, and even the cover legendaries looked like overdesigned Digimon monstrosities compared to previous legendaries. It turned me off from Pokemon, then I got back into it with Gen 4, and Gen 3 being my least favorite ever since, with OR/AS's mediocrity not helping.
...And then Alola happened. FUCKING ALOLA happened. That wasteland of a region makes Hoenn look like paradise, most of the newer Pokemon look like shit, the linearity and hand-holding makes Gen 6 look like fucking Elder Scrolls, and the entire generation just reeks of settling for mediocrity and lack of effort. ...And then LGPE happened. I shouldn't need to say anything about that.
Needless to say, while Hoenn still isn't my favorite, it's definitely not my "black sheep" anymore.
