Why does /vp/ think Gen 6 and 7 are kusoges? Do they often treat their opinions as fact? I don't find them bad really. I find them OK at worst.

I mean, if you treat an entire board as a monolith then it’s going to seem like the prevailing opinion is being treated as “fact”. Most people here don’t like gen 6/7 as much as the others, but some people love them.

Another example— a lot of people here think HGSS is one of the best games, but plenty think gen 4 is garbage as well.

Gen 5 is a really divisive game as well. Some people think is was the peak of the series, and some think it was utter garbage.

If you have a different opinion than the majority then that’s fine. Neither side is right or wrong. It’s just preference.

XY is good
SM is good
ORAS is garbage
USUM is slightly less garbage than ORAS.
LGPE is mediocre but not as garbage as USUM or ORAS.

XY and SM both feel like very unpolished and rushed games, with a lot of shitty design choices hurting a lot of the single player experience. XY suffered from a boring story filled with literal whos which show up maybe twice in the game then disappear for good (see every gym leader and Team Flare member not named Lysander). Plus plot points which seemed like they were going to be expanded upon but never came to nothing like Malva being a Team Flare member or the presence of the power plant in the desert that you never get to explore making it feel like an absolutely useless area. SM just feels incredibly bland, and getting Lillie shoved into your face every other route gets boring really fast starting from the 3rd island. Add in the fact that both these games are easy to break gameplay-wise (EXP share makes it very easy to overlevel, mega evolutions/Z moves take out the little amount of challenge left in the in-game trainers) and you get games which are generally not very engaging.

The only thing I really liked about XY and found redeeming were the customization options and the pokemon distribution. The outfits you could make in XY were a lot cooler than the garbage you get in SM.

Both games were pretty mediocre and rushed, but XY gets the slight edge for me because of the customization.

ORAS is, well... yeah. It felt like a really uninspired remake when compared to HGSS and FRLG. The only thing is really did was bring new megas.

I only played Ultra Sun from this gen, why is SM any better? Finding Zygarde cells instead of stickers for pokemon i won't use sounds more fun and i heard the story is better on the first games, but that's not quite enough to make me play the same game twice, It's too long and easy to even be worth a nuzlocke

The XY Pokedex is the best dex in the series, by far. The distribution and having it split into 3 areas of the region like coastal and mountain is perfect, and it's stupid that it hasn't been done again.

I agree with your points for XY and it's such a shame too cause the pokemon were decent and the region is really good and the first region to really make me feel the scale of it (aside from the unnecessary desert in general and the "gym makes it snow in the city instead of it just being in the french alps")

I LOVE lillie, and I didn't mind traveling with her, I just wish they had sped up her arc and started giving her pokemon, so she could double battle with you sometimes, and so she could take a surprise captain position at one point and battle you for the ice z-crystal after her trial

I actually liked the sun and moon customization, the clothes were ok but I wish there was more fashionable sets like XY, but I especially liked the hair. The female in XY and SM have good hair but the male in XY had shit. The option to take off your hat was the BEST and the different types of glasses was nice too

You will have to elaborate on what unpolished means and detail why that is. Story is not an argument to me since Pokemon never had a good story, so you can't say any of them are better or worse than the others. Yes, I will say this for BW as well since it forces two unrelated matters to be one. Difficulty is not relevant to the quality of a game to me. You can have any difficulty there is and a game can still be appealing.

So please elaborate on how the games are unpolished.

USUM is very slightly better than SM
LGPE is better than XY by a substantial margin.

Overall, both gen 6 and 7 have been massive disappointments. If I was to have my way, gen 8 would have a proper return to form of the concepts presented in gen 5. More mature narrative elements, darker undertones, decent character development, better designed Pokes, much better region design, cool Gym leaders, cool Elite 4, cool Champion, etc. I would also love a sequel to Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee but instead of KANTOOOO we get Johto this time around. This way we get two proper Pokemon RPG series running concurrently; would be awesome af. As much as I detest Sinnoh, I do think we are long overdue for a mainline remake, so maybe release those at the VERY END of gen 8.

Why is ORAS hated so much? It's a better RS. Yeah, SM and XY sucked, but with ORAS they were constrained a bit by the older, better games. It's why the flagship gen 8 games will suck but the Sinnoh remakes will probably be alright.

Because they already fixed RS with Emerald. They then proceeded to ignore everything they fixed with Emerald and gave us a half-assed touch-up. It's not even like they were lacking time or hardware, since Delta Episode exists. They just decided that all the improvements of Emerald were less important to the core of the games than inserting their shitty side-plot.
