Then you were never in the right place. The anime was always meant for promoting the games. As such, they would have to have a structure that allows them to be never-ending. Why did Shudo make his concept then? There at least some undertone in there that he was aware that the ending he envisioned would never come to pass, and it was purely a what if scenario. I think he did want to see this ending at some point, but he knew that was not up to him to decide. I think that is ultimately why he left, since he could never drive it in that direction. There is no satisfaction to be had here in terms of plot.
