A lot of people wanted them to make more evolution states for years. Yes, not in that way, but more evo states regardless. This would've caused power creep anyway.

The only complaint I've seen on cutscenes has more to do with the writing itself than how the cutscenes work. Why not just improve the writing?

Most of the complains are about how they slow the game and are unskippable

Mega Evolutions were unecessary but could have been okay if they kept going with it instead of scrapping them to invent YET ANOTHER useless gimmick for the next gen.
Dog only knows what they'll shit us for Gen 8...

It's also the presentation. Fade to black, watch character walk up slowly, wait for them to perform stock animations for a couple of seconds before telling you something you already know, pause to do another stock animation (9 times out of 10 it will be shaking head or hands on hip), give some useless comment, pause to go to a neutral stance, walk away slowly and fade to black. At least there weren't many dutch angles, I guess.

It is rather simplistic in it's structure, though. Even stuff on the N64 and Playstation had more diverse posing. However, I will perhaps contest there is a way that even stock posing can work if the story being presented is good. I will agree that there is nothing interesting about this whatsoever other than Lusamine being an absolute bitch, but not even that has a payoff.

Oh, I'm not saying that it's an inherent problem - more so that it compounds with the bad writing to become a slog - especially when the text boxes appear after the animations instead of during. Being well-handled in one regard can easily save the other, I know one of my favourite storytelling games falls slight victim to animation pauses.

Mega Forms are a good concept when used with Pokemon that need it, like Pidgeot and Beedril.
It should be treated as a Forme change, instead of it activating with a held item.
If you're upset that it makes strong pokemon stronger, then just adjust their values to non-retarded standards.

As someone who's also in the camp of dissapointed fans worried about Gen 8, I actually liked most of the gimmicks the 3ds era introduced. The problem is that GF will likely abandon them to focus on some new gimmick, when they should give trying to introduce some big new thing a break and focus on what they already have. I personally hope Gen 8 just brings back new Megas, while introducing new UBs.

You're not thinking about it. All players gain acces to a ride Pokémon with rock smash if they give the players access to a Taurus around the first gym. If you would have to ride your own Pokémon, you'd still have to force yourself to build your team around ride Pokémon and it would be HMs all over again.
