Why is Gamefreak so blatantly playing favorites by making Steel the most overpowered type by far? And what would need to be done to fix type balance? The current state of affairs is shameful.

Introduce a Poison-type move that is super effective against Steel types. It causes a burn, but only to Steel types. 70 Base Power and 100% Accuracy.
Give it to a handful of fitting Poison types, and any Pokemon that has to do with digestion or heavy eating.
Make more strong special Fighting and Ground moves (All we have is Aura Sphere, Focus Blast, and Earth Power), since Steel types are mostly defensive physically.

There is nothing wrong with Steel immunity against poison. Steel shouldn't resist Rock and Ice however. Those two types are total garbage at present, so throw em a bone.

Foretress highlights just how terrible bugs really are by undermining the defensive awesomeness of steel via its Fire weakness x4. It would be immediately improved if only it could ditch its bug typing and turn into pure steel.

Steel is not overpowered, but it is powerful enough where making it lose a few resistances to help other types wouldn’t hurt it much.
Personally, I would make it neutral to Grass, Bug, and Psychic, and pass it’s effectiveness against Fairy to Normal.

there is no good steel STAB move, and the majority of steel types are defensively built anyway, so of course it will be a defensive type, offensive steel types tend to be given a second typing that hinder it like metagross and scizor, the only exception being aegislash and that hero is broken more because of brainless game design on GF's part

the most overpowered type is fairy that has great moves, great offensive and defensive capability, they gain an immunity yet NO downsides, every other type that has an immunity has a weakness to something that is common and popular, like flying with rock, electric with ground and so on

Who cares about balance for tourneyfags? These kinds of things should prioritize lore over balance, and it makes sense for Steel to be the most powerful defensive type because it's, well, steel. Dragon and Psychic should also be overpowered again and Bug should have stayed weak.
