dex bloat is one of the most harmful things to modern pokemon design
the campaigns have been way too loosely designed starting with b2w2, super easy to overcome "bosses" because the game cannot appropriately challenge if you get a lucario early on, as an example
gen 7 needed big stat boosts on its bosses to try to fix this problem, and they wouldn't have designed totems to be 2v1 if this wasn't a problem
only oras has had good dex design of the 3d games
and not to mention just how bad it is for competitive play, post-bank metagames for both singles and vgc are completely busted and old pokemon like landorus are still way too popular, which makes these last 3 generations feel too samey and gimped design-wise

so I think this is the one thing lgpe did really well is take a step back and consider design before whiners who really need that early lucario

Lets go is already doing terribly for pokemon games, especially in japan that Smash Ultimate is currently picking up its slack. If they kill bank and not let players transfer their old mon to gen 8 like they have foe the past 2 gens hell is going to break loose on them

Why not just build off of what we have right now? Getting rid of mons is just going to piss more people off than simply removing abilities, and hold items ever hoped to ever done.
If 60% of the mons get cut, that would mean that among that 60% there are going to be fan-favorites.

A lot of mons in older generations are still fan favorites to this day. The real issue is that GF keeps trying to soft cut every mon, rather than buffing those older mons to the same extent. They only did it with a handful so far. They also are trying to gut Mega's in favor of Z-crystals, and look on how much that's working out for them.
This is a series which the company tries to reboot it in some way, but only gets backlash because they can never get shit right. The only real solution is firing everyone in GF who is completely insane/incompetent, and then building off of the amount of mons, and mechanics we have as of Gen 7.

Cutting mons, and features is NOT the solution, making a much more free game without story interference, with a shit ton of a features on par of Platinum, HG/SS, and BW2 IS the solution.

What was the draw of Pokemon Colosseum then?

At this point, the series needs to learn how to use the Pokemon it has already, as opposed to relying on adding more to appease audiences.

Otherwise, you will more frequently begin to see games that do these so-called "hard cuts," because near-1000 monsters is neither sustainable for the developer, interesting for the player, and appeasing arguing teenagers on /vp/ doesn't merit the effort anyways.

I'm not advocating for any of that at all. I'm saying is having meaningful post game content, and of course the BF coming back, and the PWT. Oh and bring back the PSS and rework the festival plaza or get rid of it entirely, since it was a shitty replacement. Bring back the super training mini games as well, along with a whole load of other things I'm potentially missing.
The thing with the plot with recent games is that they get in the way to the point where it's obnoxious. Gen 7, was just unskippable cut-scene the generation, and just slowed the game down unnecessarily, and made re-runs more of a chore than anything.
But most important for a feature that SHOULD be in, but never was implemented, MULTIPLE SAVE FILES FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING GOD GAMEFEAK

Colosseum was primarily made as a money-making scheme to make Johto's Pokemon available before Emerald and FRLG went and did so anyway, but even then you needed Colosseum to get Ho-Oh without having access to Navel Rock.
Likewise for GoD and Lugia, although GoD was more concerned with being an actual game beyond that.

I honestly never even considered that angle. You're right, it doesn't even respect Gen 1. But it's clearly also NOT pandering to Pokemon Go players, since the catching mechanics are way more difficult and frustrating than the smartphone version it supposedly emulates. I'd even venture to say that the frustration is by design.

The only novel thing that's really good about LGPE is the Eevee pandering, the voice acting and new refresh animations from that shit better be reused in the next games and extended to the evolutions as well.
