My favourite SoulSilver memory is this: I was living in Australia when it launched and l was due to leave the country to return home 5 days later. On that flight out of Aus the older lady sitting two seats over tapped me on the shoulder and asked in english if I would mind helping her grandson, as he was also playing a Johto remake and was stuck, as he couldn't speak english himself to ask me. I precoded to spend an enjoyable 10 minutes (with the occasional translation from his Gran) helping this kid out around Olivine (he wanted the Rod and a couple other bits and pieces).

HG to me tends to feel more like the game that is tied more to the region. Ho-oh created the 3 beasts and the Kimono girls being the shine maidens at the tower makes more sense than you just running into them in a cave. Lugia didn't even create the 3 birds, it just babysits them because they have tantrums. SS would have made more sense if you started in Kanto and played Johto in the 2nd half of the game. Because then you'd have dealt with the 3 birds and Lugia would be the build up to it. Then after you beat lugia some kid can come into silver cave and fight you.

The Cherrygrove man and Ensuine are mandatory in both G/S/C and HG/SS, Earl and Suicune are optional in both of the generations, so its a bit of a moot point.
Plus although I agree the remakes have their flaws, changing the words 'pretty girls/women' to 'strong trainers' is a stupid thing to write-off an entire game over.
