Reminder that Gen 8's protagonists will still have this soulless psychopath smile because Gamefreak is literally incapable of simple facial animation. And the protagonists being silent protagonists is no excuse, look at WW Link or Joker for example, both characters that were on consoles even weaker than the Switch. These characters hardly talk apart from grunts, sighs and laughs, yet they all at least have facial expressions that suit whatever is going on around them instead of standing around with a constant :^) face.
