The problem is when cutscenes happen every 20 steps and consist just of a character saying something, maybe giving you an item, then going away.
Take Lillie for example. There was absolutely no reason to have her appear everywhere just to be cute over and over again until her she finally did something. It adds nothing to the plot, world or even her character development. The only ones happy with that are waifufags.
