>>37377839>Just like how it isn't the Luigi franchise, it's Mario. The point is that Pokémon games don’t have a central Pokémon the same way Luigi is the obvious star of Luigi’s Mansion. The closest you get is the starter, but you get three choices for them and they’re just meant to /start/ your party of six. Also, you have a different starter every gen because again, the point is to go out and find new Pokémon rather than doing the same thing every time.
>Kanto Pokemon existing doesn't stop you from doing that. The problem isn’t that they exist, the problem is that they’re given undue importance when the focus should be on what’s new. Going back to the XY example, the game puts the main story on hold to give you a Kanto starter. Fucking why? And then they get a mega evolution while your actual starter doesn’t. There’s a reason XY was so well-received at first, but is generally considered mediocre now; the gimmick of “look at what they did with my Kanto starter!” wore off and everyone realized the game’s barely finished and has no postgame.
>No it doesn't. You're just autistic and want them to do a soft reboot every 4 years for no reason instead of building on the content they already have.I appreciate BW for taking that “blank slate” approach, but I don’t want or expect them to do that kind of reboot every time. All GameFreak has to do is make a solid game with good new content, but they can’t manage that so they dumpster the new cast and rely on nostalgia for older gens instead. The older mons should be used to fill in the gaps and widen your options, rather than putting them center-stage like XY did.
