Sup, /vp/

I'm playing Ultra Moon, and I can't seem to find an answer. I have a Kadabra with trick, and I'm SOS grinding cubones for a Thick Club (I already killed totem marowak before I knew it had one, silly me). My question is, does my kadabra need to hold an item in order for the switch to work. I've gone through a lot of Cubone, and I'm using compound eyes. I know RNG is a bitch, but I feel like statistically I should have gotten one by now.

Other than that, what kind of pokemon have you been building lately? I just finished putting together a team for grinding up high IV dittos.

It's been fun having these little goals to work towards. Once I've got a few dittos with good natures, I'm going to start breeding like a madman.
