It's a mage, why doesn't it have boltbeam and a bunch of other elemental attacks? Does it learn Focus Blast? I feel like it doesn't which is fucking insane. Replace its HA with Magic Guard.

Both Chesnaught and Delphox were sabotaged to boost Greninja in popularity, because fuck you for liking anyone other than our gen’s moneymaker.
Kalos starters are a solid trio, but it’s sad that the other two were treated so badly by GF.

You don't. Competitive shouldn't be considered at all when designing the games.

Competitive can and will fall where it may, only balancing the in-game appropriately for the lore and level design matters.

Why does GameFreak think this way? Wouldn't having a popular fox and armadillo be a benefit to them to sell more merch? People liking Blastoise and Venusaur over Charizard doesn't magically reduce their net profit.

I believe that the person who made the designs and theme of these Starters, did a great job, it is obvious that they were designed to have qualities and defects to adapt to the taste of different players, the error is in the person who programmed and distributed their skills , status, and movements, this was not careful to give them a balance and ended up fucking everything.

Give it Aura Sphere. It's in the same egg group as Lucario, and it's a mage/witch.
Give it Thunderbolt.
Give it Nasty Plot.
Or if you want to make it guaranteed OU and just snap balance in half like a twig, give it a new ability that automatically sets up Light Screen upon switching in.

Should've given it an hidden ability that fits with it's Pyrokensis theme. Maybe a 30% chance to burn with anymove that stacks with moves that can already burn. So Heat Wave will have a 40% chance to burn and Psychic would have a 30% chance to burn. Also it having 106 or 110 Speed wouldn't hurt. 114 Sp.Atk Stat isn't awful but pretty lacking, so maybe 125.
Mystical Fire being like 90 Base Power would help it greatly as well.

I like the Kalos starters and wish that Delphox and Chestnaught could've been better.
