Also I love how all these starter wars always base the decision on the final evolution as if you know what they are going to look like when making the choice. What first time player's going to know what the final form is even going to look like?

Yeah that's cool, I admit. but Blastoise is still a shitmon.

I love Wartortle a lot and Blastoise too, but I wouldn't use them in games.

When I chose a Snivy in my first run on Pokémon Black and the 5gen in general, I did not know anything about the game or knew any evolution of each of the initials, I chose it because it was the one I liked the most. I don't like Venusaur much but I pick Bulbasaur most of the time because
1- I love Bulbasaur design and in the anime
2- Ivysaur is badass
3- Giga Drain and Status moves

Venusaur could have been better design-wise but eh.

You had to be a grade A moron if you didn't know any of this with all the media exposure of the game's concept or be a blind closed-in jap in the 90s without fucking eyes to go "oh look at this little fire lizard with a flame at the tip of it's tail surely it won't have any connection to the , let's be gentle, big reptile with wings and horns and a fucking flame at the tip of it's tail". They were made that way because Sugi boi already had the kaiju and they paid a chick to draw the cutesy ones to be related to the finished big ones.

I was 8 when the games came out and my classmates and I already knew all about the concept of evolution in the game and what the starters turned into

There was lots of advertising and I'm pretty sure the anime was going before the game came out in the west

I ended up choosing Squirtle as my MC the last time I played Explorers of Sky. It took about 25 minutes for me to want to restart as Totodile.

(I still played to completion, mind you. Just didn't have as much fun.)
