Blessed timeline, even moreso when the creators realised Pikachu was the perfect mix of cool electric mouse/rat/thing to garner interest from boys, but was also kawaii as fuck, to interest the girls. Best of both worlds and given they wanted to launch in the US, extremely important as the target demo wouldn't have gone near it with Clef as the mascot, too girly for fragile burgerboys' egos.

Clefairy getting Fairy typing was all I needed to be happy.

I love Clefairy, but Pokemon would never have taken off in late 90's - early 2000's America with it as the mascot. I don't know how kids are today, but during the original Pokemania, the boys in my class were afraid of being associated with anything pink and the girls knew what Pikachu and Jigglypuff were, but they didn't like Pokemon. Even though Jigglypuff has a similar appeal to Clefairy.

Agree. This is the best timeline. Pikachu is the mascot of the franchise, and because of that it's a soulless mon and there is nothing really special about it
