hey /vp/, I'm jumping back into Pokemon with my last game being White. I have LeafGreen, FireRed, Emerald, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and White - recently got UltraSun and have a bunch of questions.

With Pokebank being a thing, should I migrate ALL my pokemon from earlier games to UltraSun? Any reason to leave any behind? And does Pokebank keep Pokerus on affected mons?

Am I missing out by skipping X/Y and ORAS?

Is there anything that's easier (IE breeding, training) in past games that would make me want to keep a save file?

Is there any way to bring items between generations?

Literally all of it. Breeding, Masuda method, shiny hunting, ev training, even getting good IVs. All of it’s easier by a good bit

Not if you’re doing it all “legit”. Just get cfw on your 3ds and throw everything in pkhex if you *need* items

Most of your old stuff is garbage by modern standards, you'd be lacking in egg moves, hidden abilities, balltism, or hyper training making hidden power easier. Only reason to bring up most of them is for dex completion/powering up critical captures. If you still have the old Palkia, Kyogre, or Zekrom kicking around, bring them up at least as you need them to catch Giratina, Rayquaza, and Kyurem, (catch Rayquaza in a friend ball unless you shiny hunt it) Otherwise you're better off asking someone to pass you an updated version of your bro as a fresh hatch then breed that to get you as the OT

Just in case you want to go back to them later or have any particular bros you want to ribbon hunt for first. There's also old move tutors not in later games Sucker Punch in Heart Gold but I doubt that's a factor for you.

Yes

Alpha Sapphire has some legendaries not catchable in Ultra Sun, also catchable Deoxys, that's it really.

Not in your games, level grinding is easiest in ORAS and breeding gets a small update every game. All that's left I can think of is the above mentioned exclusive move tutors. I mean there's also balltism via the Apricon balls in Heart Gold so maybe keep that around.

Also grab Crystal on VC, catchable Celebi and you can get better Ho-Oh/Lugia's then the ones catchable in Heart Gold or Ultra.

To be clear, the Breeding/Masuda/EV training is all easier in the older games or in UltraSun? That might sway me to bring all my boxes of Ditto and Elygem over from White.

One way only. Both games can connect to bank but once a Pokemon gets put in a gen 7 game, it can't be returned to a gen 6 game.
