>>37396041Yeah it's pretty damn contrasting with how certain Pokemon are portrayed between the Japanese fandom and the American/Western fandom.
Take Umbreon for example; the artist that drew the official gijinka for it in Eevee Project, has described the character to be cat-like, the same description can be found for the official gijinka of Espeon.
Umbreon drawn in official media shows that it is capable of hissing, climbing various tall buildings like rooftops, and also pupils become slit when it's agitated, which are famous traits of cats.
Also in many Japanese
doujins Umbreon would be often called "black cat," and often times, Japanese fans joke about it being a cat with rabbit ears (cabbit), but neither fox or dog is brought up.
Japanese fanart of Umbreon is way more on model than Western art as well, because they know that Umbreon canonically has a blunt snout, small paws and a slender body, something more reminiscent to a feline. Then you have western art which always, ALWAYS draws Umbreon with a huge schnozz, shiba inu eyebrows, a burly build and disney eyes, and it's so fucking ugly to look at because it doesn't even look like the pokemon anymore.
