The funny thing is I would have agreed with you until I went back and replayed it recently. Other than the low res chibi 3d graphics not being all that great, its really apparent they didn't know how to program a camera in a 3d environment. That game gave me motion sickness in a few different areas.

pretty much, X and Y where the change that we needed. just the whole bottom screen was the best thing that pokemon ever added, and most of the pokemon in that game looked great, maybe two duds.and pokemon trainer customization, megas need i say more? sure the story was bad, and it was easy (but pokemon was always easy but what ever)

I mean, Kalos gets a lot of hate for not being as good as Unova. However, most people forget these were the first 3D games compared to the many 2D games (RBGY, GSC, RSE, FRLG, DPPt, HGSS, BW, BW2), yet they still added a lot of cool stuff:
>Trainer customization
>Riding Pokemon
>Pokemon Amie
>3D models with animations for attacks, damage, fainting, and interacting
>Mega Evolution
>PSS
>Super Training and finally being able to see EVs in-game
>Horde Battles, kept Triples and Rotation
>Made BP way easier to obtain
>Biggest National Pokedex out there
I mean, if Mega Evolution went introduced at a later point in the games and the rivals had more to offer (Tierno being a Move Tutor, Trevor offering Pokedex rewards, Shauna being a Contests Rival), XY would have been fine.
On the other hand, if some of what >>37399515 mentioned were introduced as either DLC or a third version as well as a difficulty selection, and a bit of Southern Kalos went explorable, it would have been a pretty amazing gen desu.

Some of those were Masuda putting in mysteries for the hell of it and the Heatran thing is a mistranslation about a lady imitating it's cry. But I agree that the games do not feel complete and they likely wanted to do more but struggling as it was the first 3D outing and/or had to meet the worldwide release deadline.

some of the themes are good but there are some absolute shitters like the gym leader battle theme, team flare battle theme, and I think there was a variation of the battle theme that occurs really early on that was super shitty. I haven't looked into it but they're probably made by the idiot that did the three musketeers pokemon theme.

It's not fair to compare Gen 6 to fully-fledged regions like Sinnoh and Unova that got refinements through later titles. Likening it to its first-version counterparts is more levelheaded. It's miles ahead of Diamond/Pearl, worse than Black/White, and probably sits in the same range of quality as the original Ruby/Sapphire (both share the absence of a post-game and a lowered difficulty than their predecessors).
