I like retro style games, but there is something different about this. I think it's that RPGs were generally improved by 3D, whereas stuff like platformers lost something in the equation that can only be done in 2D. RPGs don't need that limitation.

Against it. Sprite work is appealing because it uses a limited palette and pixels to convey a lot of information. Octopath fails on an aesthetic because its muddy color make it difficult to read and mixing 2D and 3D is actively distracting

I hate this. This game, octopath traveler has some weird as hell quirks: blur on pixelized textures? wth? also, look at the shop signs near the stairs on the top left, notice how there's really no contrast between the signs and the stairs? this looks just... weird. I'd rather have BW2 graphics.

I think it would be fun if they tried to do one more sprite game, but I'd prefer the style to be more like Eastward than Octopath Traveler. But I like 3D too, so I wouldn't want them to only do sprite games either.

LGPE is Gen 6 smoothed, Gen 8 will be Gen 7 smoothed, and somehow will still run like shit.

Except the part where it will be built in a native engine anon. Switch being so drastically different to 3DS means they can't repurpose it without heavily adapting it, which means they'll just build a brand new engine to work with it instead.

I actually like bad 2D graphics, because they inspire better fanart. It stimulates the imagination if you have to imagine what the Pokemon world would look like in detail, instead of being directly shown what it looks like in HD. That's why older gens had so much awesome fanart of the time when Gold encounters Red, for example.

So you are retarded. They didn't use it because they themselves didn't ever place LGEP above VIII in terms of importance and they wreren't wasting the debut of their new engine on it. Also, LGEP was done on a budget significantly less than what the core titles recieve. That's why it's recycled content upscaled - it's a breather game spat out to keep Pokémon relevant to the consumers (and to tease the release of a new Gen on the new hardware, like TPCi's spin-offs used to), with the side benefit of being pure profit at this stage of its lifecycle.

and burgers can't read, I said a budget less than what the cores receive because no matter how you sperg out, games always get budgets, Tagiri beg, borrow and stealing to get Red/Green made ensured that once they got a bit of capital, they were allocating a development budget for everything they did forward.

I know they've mostly killed them in favor of rushed yearly main series and mobile trash - I was one of the few I saw saying that is what would happen after the patent stuff about the Switch at least being part handheld came out.

Doesn't mean I can't imagine them existing again in this hypothetical world where they do the right thing and go back to 2/2.5D.
