I can't imagine an open world like breath of the wild, but I could imagine a map that is more open than it has been previously.

Also yeah, the mostly cold region wouldn't work because there are too many diverse types of pokemon.

You are not talking about Sinnoh, are you?
Only the northern part of the map is cold, and that consists of like 2 routes, a lake and a city.

The only other real cold places in Pokemon games were in the Ranger spin-offs. God i loved the athosphere of the colder places in Ranger.

You have to buy winter boots ingame from a style boutique to be able to walk in normal speed in snowy areas

Special boots made out of fire Pokemon fur lets you walk even faster since it slightly melts the snow you step on

I wish they would go back to the gen1 and 2 formula where the game barely has any story and most of the gameplay consists of catching and raising Pokemon, exploring optional areas and just role playing as a Pokemon trainer.

They could even go as far as to give the player different objectives than just defeating the 8 gym leaders and the league. Something like trainer classes, but with actual content that lets you do things in that specific category like being a breeder, fisher etc. which give you as the player different skills and advantages that other trainer classes dont have, which would encourage the social aspects of the game and trading.

Making Pokemon games a linear story RPG was probably the biggest mistake.

I hated Botw because aside from your gear not being repairable it was devoid of any challenge. The enemy variety was a huge turnoff too. At least there was more than six unique enemies in Skyrim.

not to say youve played the game wrong, because you probably played it exactly like intended,but there's the problem, if you went to the more challenging parts of the map before getting a chance to find any good weapons shit was tough
defeating that first lynel near the zora village was also fairly challenging if you didnt learn their patterns yet

CC's problem is that you can't choose which city you start in so you need to scurry past a few towns like an idiot. Roaming Red does open world Pokemon better. You can have any mon as a starter and start in whichever town you want. The only flaw is that you're playing Pokemon Red.

No. There may be dozens of different models but they all mostly fight the same. Fighting a bear isn't a significantly different experience from fighting a troll. BotW may have less visual variety but the mechanical diversity is infinitely higher.
