Until X/Y Character names had a limit of 5 (Japanese) or 7 (international) which is now set at 8 (Japanese) or 12 (international), Pokémon species names and nicknames were limited to 10 (thus the names of things like Feraligatr) which is now 12, and attacks were limited to 12 characters which is now 16, thus Thunderstone > Thunder Stone and Extremespeed > Extreme Speed and the like.
