Breeding and EV training was perfected in gen 6.

I finished red plus plus recently. It's been a long while, every time I played I'd get no further than cerulean before getting bored, waiting months and restarting. I committed to it this time, got past that bit, played with a different team than my usual favourites, and kept just... waiting to get to the fun bit. Got past cerulean, did lavender tower all the rocket stuff, caught the legendaries, beat the league. It never came, I thought the beginning was just grindy and it would be satisfying getting further, to the bit with more choice and substance, but there was just nothing. Finishing it felt like nothing. That might have been the last time I ever complete a pokemon game. I guess we just grew up.
