No? Well, there you go. Just because it's on a different system from the one it follows, doesn't mean it's a new Gen.
Since I imagine you're probably one of them ,I will explain... Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Silver are all Game Boy games.
Yellow, Gold, and Silver have Color enhancements but they are NOT explicitly for the Color system. That's why they have the little notch for the GB power slider which held the game in place at the top while on.
Crystal, meanwhile, is GBC only.
So if Trash Go is Gen 8 for being on a new system, then it's Gen 9 because whichever way you're looking at it, either Yellow of Crystal did it first meaning they push everything else back by one.
And if you're going to get into enhancements making a system THE system for a game then Gen 5 is now Gen 6 because it had DSi and 3DS enhancements thanks to the camera and mics they have meaning it must be a 3DS game since apparently they must be aligned to the newest system that accesses all of the content.
This is also why it was funny to see people arguing against moving to the Switch after Sun and Moon because "muh Pokémon doesn't switch platforms mid-Gen" even though literally everyone who played Yellow, Gold, and Silver on a Game Boy then had to buy the Color to play Crystal if they didn't have one already.
