GameFreak isn't interested in the long time fans who regularly buy most of the games out of habit. They want to achieve Pokemania again and they believe that the way is Kanto because everyone at your high school and your college knows Kanto.

At high school and college? I mean I won't deny that I *know* Kanto because I play the Pokemon games a lot, but I'd think most normies my age who played Pokemon as a kid would've played through Sinnoh or Hoenn. Which is why ORAS sold so well by the way, because it panders to college-age students who played Hoenn games when they were kids. People who played Kanto games when they were kids (besides FRLG which, if they wanted to remake FRLG then they sure didn't do that) are now like in their mid 30s and are probably raising a family.

Yes, the high school and college you went to if you were born around the 1990s. Pokemon would be in their shelf of VHS tapes alongside a bunch of Disney movies.
Your hobby didn't have to be video games to be part of Pokemania and there wasn't YouTube to pull normies away from Gen 4 onward.

Genwunners are 28+ now, many of them in their 30s. They have full-time jobs and families and responsibilities. Sure, the nostalgia factor will get some of them to bite, but for the most part, the kids (myself included) that were 10 when Red & Blue launched just don't have time for that sorta thing anymore. It is to be expected that Kanto pandering will have diminishing returns over time.
