Also, traveling wouldn't really work like it does in the games. Cars, trains, and other forms of transportation would be used by children whose parent could afford it. So, instead of walking and training along the way, a real journey would likely consist of paying for transport to the next major city, finding a place to catch and/or level up Pokemon once you get there, beat the gym leader, and use the winnings to pay for transit to the next town.
>Evolution and levelingI think that these would work exactly as they do in-game. the Pokemon world has this strange "infinity energy" stuff that we don't have here. It's this energy that powers leveling and evolution. So, if you battled enough with your starter and it reached the appropriate level, it would likely become enveloped in a harsh light and evolve right before your eyes. As for how trainers would know their Pokemon's level, hp, and other stats, they'd just use the Pokedex. Developed by specialists who study all aspects of Pokemon life, it's likely that a trainer's Pokedex can register the unique infinity energy signature of any given Pokemon once contained in a Pokeball. In a battle, the Pokedex could be set to essentially resemble the bottom screen in a Pokemon battle. It will list the moves that the Pokemon knows, its HP and its estimated stats. Beginning trainers would likely look down at their Pokedex quite a bit. However, as a trainer becomes more experienced with their team, they will memorize their Pokemons' moves and be able to recognize when it's beginning to tire. Just like dog owners can tell how their pet is feeling based on its panting and tail movements.
