Why is that, whenever people theorize new types, they never try to think up a new "vague species" type? I feel like that's the one that's most likely to appear, more so than Sound. GameFreak would basically get free reign to bullshit its matchups.

Pokemon was inspired by bug-catching and bugs are crazy abundant. Ghosts, Dragons, and Fairies are supernatural or mythical creatures. In other words, they're special. If a new "species" type were to be added, it would have to be a new type of special being.
You can't just rattle shit off like "Dog", "Cat", or "Mouse" and say "Yes, this is a good idea for a type." People don't come up with more "vague species" type because all grounds have been covered. Plus, we don't need an influx of dog or cat-mons.
Sound is the most practical idea for a new type, although it's certainly fine as Normal and an attack property. Shit like Light, Cosmos, or whatever else people come up with can also be represented by other types.

Psychic was absolutely bonkers in Gen 1 and Dark and Steel were necessary to cuck it into submission.
Dragons were also pretty busted before Fairy because they only lost to Ice (a bad type) and other Dragons.

Fairy was busted though and the only reason why it didn't immediately break the game upon introduction was the lack of high BST mons. It's not beyond saving though.

Fixable by making more ice and steel mons that aren't shit. Or moves that aren't ice/dragon that do supereffective damage to dragons anyway, in the samd gen they tried out Freeze-dry and Hawlucha's dual-typed move. Of course, this is gamefreak we're talking about. The company that removed steel's resistance to ghost in a hamhanded attempt to flavor Aegislash isn't known for making good design decisions

Although I like dark and steel types and glad they were added, they could have easily buffed bug/ghost in gen 2 instead by making bug resist psychic, make better bugs and make useful bug/ghost type attacks for more pokemon like we have now. Also take away poisons weakness to psychic

I would be happy if they did this, since I proposed this idea in a few threads. There are a lot of Pokemon that have to do with blasts, explosions, cannons, smoke, etc.
The only downside to this is that I have Blast as one of my own storytelling elements, so some of that individuality would be lost.
