Then the backstory for each group could be slightly different. But too much dialogue throughout the game would need to be changed for it to work well.

Yea this bothers me, I really dont think most of the people still playing Pokemon games are kids under 12 or so, and even little kids tend to like playing games where they can be older and stronger.

Children don't give a fuck about Kanto, at best they'll care about Charizard and/or Mewtwo, but not the entirety of Kanto.

I don't think it is, but it's pretty easy to infer that the XY protagonists are meant to be the oldest yet. Emma is confirmed to be 16 by Xerosic's notes and you're given every reason to assume that she's younger than the protagonist.

Or something. This fixes all the problems with the “are you a boy or girl.” Shame that they could’ve done this easily in SM.

If the character I want to use is older then I just use a younger version of them.

My main copy of Moon was just a younger version of one of my MMORPG characters, for example. Her and her twin brother character (whom I used a younger version of on my main Sun) are sun/fire and ice/moon based characters so it was a no brainer to use them for the roles.

I wouldn't say no to the option but it's perfectly acceptable as is.

And by "every reason", you of course mean none. There is no mention of your age in relation to hers whatsoever.

Closest it comes is in some of the dialogue with her where the trainer class makes it sound like she's just insane because she's listed as suspicious woman, lady, and child at different points and she acts the part each time.
