I love all the genies, didn't even know they were hated till I saw the reactions online, is it their designs? I can look at Garbodor (a pokemon I also like) and think "yeah I see the hate" but I never once thought people would dislike these so much

For me its the faces. Especially the incarnate forms that are really ugly. They’re basically a human with some extra features.

The therian forms are a little better but their faces still make them look not quite beastly enough. Even weirder tornadus and thundurus have a weird bra looking pattern on their chest in therian form.

I'm a gen 5 fanboy and I like almost all the designs from it, even the ones many people seem to hate like Trubbish and Vanilluxe, but I really can't stand the genies. Their base forms are ugly and even worse are basically just recolours of each other, and while the Therians are better they're still easily some of the worst looking legendaries ever made.

Delphox is a good design, androgynous enough so it doesn't look weird as either gender, just like Serperior and unlike Primarina.

X and Y are about on-par for the rest of the series if you compare them to the first two games of each gen instead of the third.

Cutscenes in US/UM are perfectly tolerable and on-par if not much less frequent than other JRPGs

Gen 7 has the best Pokemon designs, and Gen 1 has way too much bloat and overlap in Pokemon designs.

Braixen is furry bait, Delphox fixes the issue of being over-feminized. Really though, GF should make starters either male only or have less subtle dimorphism for pokemon that have a higher chance of being one gender over the other.

Objectively fucking wrong. Landorus-T is stupidly good and used on almost every team, completely outclassing almost everything else at everything it can do. Meanwhile Tornadus-T while not as stupidly good, has an absurd speed tier and completely relies on landing the 70% accuracy hurricane to be good. The low accuracy of the move coupled with its 30% chance to confuse when it hits makes hurricane an rng bullshit move that feels like shit to use and feels like shit to have it used against you. When using it you will sometimes throw games because it will miss several times in a row and you'll lose. When it's against you every once in a while it will hit, confuse you, and then you'll hit yourself, and you'll lose because of that. All around shitty competitive design that nobody should like. Oh, and Thundurus-T is fine though.

I feel like a fighting type should have the ability to break rocks, water should be able to surf without an HM, flying types fly, etc without the man-made hidden machines

Sure that would make sense, however for game design purposes I think you should still need the gym badge to be able to do it. They could justify needing the gym badge by saying that you need to be more skilled as a trainer to be able to give your pokemon these complex orders, and that getting the gym badge would be a good way to get better, or something.

Actual unpopular opinion coming through. I always took wild/feral Incineroar to function like a sabertooth cat because even if it's still exaggerated, its proportions fit a sabertooth's rather better than a modern tiger's. Real sabertooths had longer forelimbs than hind limbs and also meant shit running speed, being exceptionally muscular in the upper arms and body, and even a couple species were developing more flexible thumbs and fingers for grappling and plantigrade feet for stability, becoming somewhat bear-like in the process. Certain pieces of official art IMO also make the hands/feet look vaguely more paw-like that I also imagine could be used as their look if putting Incineroar on four legs. It kinda saddens me that idea never quite caught on for Incineroar so people can both have 'giant badass tiger' but also the fun meme-tastic 'wrestle cat taunting you in the ring'.

Oh, and the reason I posted Volcarona was because I initially wanted to say that pokemon evolve and learn moves too early, most pokemon are fully evolved and learn their best moves (or have them from TMs) by level 50 while a small portion elearn moves past 60 or 70 or just evolve late. I feel like the games should scale better so that the grind from 50 to 100 feels more like raising a pokemon and less like grinding for extra stats

1. Quality of life features are not an excuse for lack of game development. Neither is a nicer setting or graphic updates. This series has been stagnant since Diamond and Pearl came out.

that opinion is unpopular because it's ignorant. people don't hate gen 7 because of the graphics. they hate gen 7 because of the obnoxious unskippable cutscenes every two seconds, the linear region designed around moving you from each unskippable cutscene to the next, and all the kanto pandering. you could make the games 2d and those problems would all still be there.

I thought about the cutscenes. Sinnoh had unskippable dialog too, but you would just jam the B button to get through it and didn't have to wait for onscreen animation to end.
The region is not linear at all. Maybe you are talking about there being less grass to move through, or shorter breaks in-between cutscenes. I think that both of these design decisions were made because the team was so excited about their detailed cutscenes.
Kanto pandering is not a problem. It's a staple of the series. Every pokedex has been redesigns or offshoots of all Kanto pokemon since the beginning, and this is the first time they've done anything interesting with the new pokemon besides gen 3.

My problem with Kanto pandering is that it takes a lot of attention from what's supposed to be shown off. Even if there are some pokemon that are considered redesigns, it doesn't change the fact that people want to go through a brand new region with new pokemon and new characters. Seeing Kanto shoved in everywhere just gets annoying and in the way of what I'm supposed to be attracted to, from the amount of Kantomons in the dex to the dialogue. Just a nitpick, but why is the protagonist of SM from Kanto anyway?

I can see why this is genuinely unpopular, these designs are awful. They took ugly looking pizza-like tails and but it on vaguely animalistic bodies and then finalized it by giving each one an angry old man face.

I realize its accurate to the mythological spirits they are based on, but man they really didn't try to make them look good.

Anyways, I generally dislike box legendaries and most legendary/mythical designs as a whole. I find them to be way over-designed and filled with too many shitty gimmicks. The only exceptions in my eyes are the Mew-likes (Victini, Celebi etc), Latias/Latios, Shaymin, Melotta, Diancie, Marshadow, Lunala and Cosmog.

The main reason people shit on X/Y is because it came after B2/W2, realistically they are another R/S and D/P and gen 6 is forgettable because Pokemon Z was never a thing.

May's RS design is iconic, but I really like the green/orange color scheme. RS brendan I can't stand though, his baggy clothes make him look overdressed for a tropical region, the Emerald design is both more stylish and athletic imo. This. Plus Pokémon is naturally fun and easy to play, especially in gen 7 since IVs are so easy to access and keep tack of:

Got a list.

-Gen 5 was the step in the right direction. With a bunch of brand new Pokémon and a fresh start. Genwunners virtually ruined Pokémon pokemon and now GF panders to them. I really hope they add more Pokémon in gen 8 than they did in gen 5.

-I didn’t mind the cutscenes in SUMU and USUM. If anything they made the game more interesting and on par with gen 5’s story. The people who complains about them are the same people that complain the game is too short and rush through the story.

-Gen 1 games were terrible and boring. You’d be better off playing Let’s Go games instead

-Inceniroar is a good design. Only issue with is that it should’ve been male only.

you set your own limits anon, I personally hack / modify / edit all the games I play, because it's what I like, others will seek out others and make them feel terrible because they like it. the only problem is when someone does both so the "feel terrible" part is easier for them.

I personally hate multiplayer because of the drama and I can't wait for the switch to be hacked so I can look at all the content we don't have yet, I will never see you in wifi battles but maybe someday, you will end up with the clone of one of my "box legendary" traded for a region exclusive, you won't know it's a clone because it will be a regular pokemon with regular shitty stats, the only difference will be that you will have it in your dex and I will get to keep the edited version in my box, both happy.

also, contrarian regigigas is a no brainer for cheaty chateau and I like it.
