You can complete the Pokedex with Platinum, HG and SS. The only Pokemon you need to transfer are Deoxys and Jirachi. The Hoenn Pokedex is divided between Platinum, HG and SS. Outside of trade evolutions the only Pokemon you need to trade are the other 2 Sinnoh, Hoenn (Steven in HG/SS after getting your Kanto starter) and Kanto (Prof. Oak after beating Red) starters you won't pick plus the Glameow and Stunky evolution lines which are exclusive to Diamond and Pearl.
Getting Spiritomb is much harder than completing the HoennDex in Gen 4.
