watching the anime as a kid they hyped the hell out of revealing a new pokemon. The group had been caring for a red and blue spotted egg for several episodes. I remember feeling when togepi turned out to just be an extension of the egg. It was super lame at the time, but whatever.

I miss all the schoolyard rumors surrounding these little guys. Everyone thought Misty's Togepi was this special, super-secret Pokemon that was more powerful than Mew and Mewtwo who at a time were regarded as the absolute strongest.

You can't blame them though, in the animeme it would just pull whatever move it wanted out of it's ass. Plus the egg symbolism. Made less sense than Ho-Oh for a super legendary but I can see where it came from.
