>>37437756It's not a matter of taste. It's a matter of creativity and originality. When you look at the examples I listed it's painfully clear how lazy some Pokemon concepts were. They literally just started with a circle for the body and added the rest. Almost all gen 3 mons suffer from this problem where the main part of their body is just one shape and lacks definition. Look at Sharpedo for example. It's not what you expect from a shark because sharks have a long body and tail but Sharpedo is just one relatively round shape. Same thing for Wailmer and Wailord, it's just round/oval shape instead of having the shape the real animal make. I think I speak for everyone when I say Wailord and Sharpedo would be much more appealing if they were shaped slightly more like the real animal.
>>37437775Yes that is a common problem with Pokemon designs up until gen 3 at least to the point where Pokemon are called digimon and overdesigned if they're not just one shape with limbs. I still think Gen 3 is the worst though. Pokemon like the Salamence line which is supposed to the be the menacing pseudo legendaries of the generation just look like fat and awkward.
>>37437791Shuppet is just a round shape with a cloth draped over it. Bulbausaur and Charmander in comparison have much more going for it.
