Greninja was shilled yeah, but it's not a furrymon, so its popularity came from its ninja theme which is loved by eveyrone, and being great in every game.

I honestly love Greninja's design. It's in my top 3 final starter evos for sure. The tongue scarf is amazing - it lets him be cool without being too edgy, and it ties together the frog and ninja concepts perfectly.

He seems pretty decent in Ultimate so far. Has some nice kill confirms and is really flashy/fun to play. Already has some decent tournament placings. Too early to tell for sure, but he definitely seems better than in sm4sh.

I'm tired of posting this but you people are so fucking retarded that it's a necessary evil, but needless to say, the results were the exact same everywhere on the internet: Any place that held a poll about the best Gen VI pokemon had Greninja destroy the competition, be it Twitter, Facebook, specialized sites like Serebii Forums or Pokejungle all held him as top choice. When starter pickrate stats popped up, he had the single highest pickrate for any starter in its respective gen. Yes, even higher than Charizard. Keep in mind this was BEFORE he even got any appearances in any sort of media. Shillfags don't know shit about anything.

Nearly all pros rate him high to top tier. Leffen thinks he's one of the best in the game. He's appeared pretty often in tournaments and gotten nice results. Armada thinks he's Amazing. Dabuz thinks he's amazing. Hell, Mang0 is maining him nowadays. He's gaining a shit-ton of momentum in this meta. If the 2.0.0 patch leaves him unchanged or, dare i say, BUFFS him, then you'll begin to see him VERY often. Well, not THAT often. He's not braindead easy to use, so he won't be an instapick
