How would you react if in future games they stopped making original pokemon and every new mon was a regional variant.

I like the idea because they'd have more time to develop new mons because the skeleton is already in the game and they wouldn't have to design from scratch. Plus I haven't really been a fan of many of the new designs.

No new pokémon ('cause retyping /= new creation) means significantly less merchandising, means significantly less takings which means significant problems for the franchise going froward. What's stopping them from making merchandise of the regional variants?
Look at Alolan Vulpix, that fucking thing became more popular than Original Vulpix and its merch sells like hot cakes.

Don't want them to stop making new ones entirely, but it needs to be scaled back severely. Maybe 40 new mons each gen and an equal number of regional variants in that gen.

I would be tottaly ok with two regions filled just with new regional formes and evolutions. It opens so much new posibilities- especialy getting new evo lines.
For example some old pokemon can evolve in new form that can evolve futher in new mon.

Disappointed if there was never, ever a new pokemon ever again. But if they went heavy on regional variants and we got maybe 50ish new pokemon per game, I'd be down for it. That's like 7 to 15 new species with their evolutions.

Do you really think new regional dexes that are 98% forgotten within a few months do this either? If anything, giving more attention and personality to favorites millions of people already have would do far better.

But the real answer is neither perspective is good on its own, the mainline games are garbage and need to be overhauled entirely.

Regional variants would be a good idea provided they remain in their specific region in the game that come after (and thus only avaiable via in-game trade with a guy from same region).

But knowing GF, they'll just spread the """"regional""" variants in the wild all over new regions like they did for Alolan pokemon in LGPE Kanto
