As for catching and using it, yes to the former and no to the latter. Just like I don't have in Gen 1 or 2 and won't in Trash Go should I even make it that far.
I count stationaries as gifts and I don't use gifts except maybe in Nuzlockes because the point of those is to play differently. That's because I don't consider gifts and legends outside the starter "my Pokémon". I assume the professor didn't train the starters but I don't know what the others did with those gifts they're giving me. I don't care of it has my ID, it's not really mine.
While I'll use any of them post game, only those I caught and those I obtained the egg for from the daycare couple etc. myself and hatch, do I really consider mine and only my Pokémon get used on a playthrough.
In instances I'm retardedly forced to catch it to battle with for some reason like in Gen 5 and on for the legends, then I let it get fainted because I don't even want it to have EVs until I'm ready to maybe use them in the post game.
