>>37453695That DP players had nothing to do once they beat those games, so this would suffice as a post-game experience like how Stadium, Stadium 2 and Colosseum (once you beat the story) were for the first 3 gens. You were meant to use your DP mons that you trained up for Battle Tower in this game.
It was also a workaround for people that didn't have insanely insecure network setups to battle online. BR was my first experience playing Pokemon online.
