>>37464373>>37464390Every single region Ash tends to end up with only maybe 2 of his team having some kind of distinct personality (after you discount Pikachu), and it was usually the starters or the fire/grass/water core. Then the rest get stuck with a gimmick or some kind of joke as their "personality".
In OS you had Bulbasaur the grumpy, Squirtle the laid back, Charmander the naive (who evolves into the tough guy). Rest were pretty generic, Snorlax had his thing where he sleeps and eats shit and Muk smothers Ash.
Johto you had Chikorita the waifu, Totodile the hyper guy, Cyndaquil the timid. Rest were also pretty generic except Heracross whose thing was to always suck off Bulbasaur.
Hoenn you had Treecko the stoic, Corphish another hyper guy, Torkoal the crybaby. Taillow initally had a thing about him being tough as nails probably to reference Guts but actually didn't come up as much as it should have.
Sinnoh had Chimchar with his abandonment/anger issues, Buizel with his pluckiness, Gligar the crybaby. Turtwig was actually pretty generic and Gible got to gnaw on things.
Unova had Snivy as a smugass, Oshawott as the jokester and Krokorok was Pikachu's rival. Leavanny had a couple scenes where he's established as a caretaker of sorts. Rest didn't have much to show for it and the larger rotating cast made it even worse than usual.
Kalos was Greninja as shonen hero, Hawlucha as showman and I guess Goomy as underdog, though that last one got resolved within its own contained arc pretty fast.
Now you have Rowlet as sleepy guy and I guess Torracat is kind of a Tsundere? Lycanroc is pretty generic but everyone likes puppies so he gets to be on the team.
Honestly the show's always been pretty shit at handling so many characters. This season isn't really much better, it's just that Ash has like 5 companions this time so the overall number of Pokemon isn't necessarily lower.
