>>37464381Smogon is the de-facto competitive standard, so some people dislike the idea that people younger, better or maybe their age are decision makers on how they're supposed to play. I think the same reason applies to people who buy games just to use cheat codes. They're not looking for fun or surprise, they're looking for a way to feel empowered.
There's anti-VGC arguments for similar reasons: GF might make the game, but VGC is a random organization with little idea how Pokemon operates, so their rules are arbitrary and encourage cheating.
For me, I think the increasing social media aspect of Smogon - the toxic like/dislike forums, the e-celeb and tuber time-in, and their monetization agreements - has created an incestuous, corrupt and frankly boorish community. The councils are not run by the same people who founded Smogon's original tiers, and their decision making is compromised by not calling the game as GameFreak created, but inventing their own game. In an ideal situation, metagames like STABmons or AAB should only be used for lab/testing purposes, not be official metagames.
CAP was the final straw for me. At the point where they're inventing Pokemon and basing a game around it, I want to phone TPCI and have them blown off the internet under DMCA.
