Okay, but if Gen Viii introduces YET ANOTHER Fire starter that appears to fit, will you stop outright denying the zodiac theory and admit it has some credence?

I mean I definitely don't believe they planned this from the start, hence Cyndaquil being a little weird, but I do think Game Freak has now heard about this fan theory and decided to roll with it.

And Game Frreak are know to re-use concepts and inspirations for their creatures anon. So we have the evidence of the zodiac being used for pokémon creation, the knowledge they re-use concepts and inspirations as the whim takes them and every starter since Blaziken falling into one of the slots of the zodiac and the expansion of the pokémon creation team in II. Blend for 5 mins on low, apply a little critcal thinking and it's kind of obvious they're using the zodiac for the fire starter inspirations.

Cyndaquil is an echidna, with aspects of shrews, anteaters, and moles, none of which are rodents. Quilava is a stoat, which again is not a rodent, but part of the weasel family. Typhlosion is a badger, but can also be compared to a bear or a weasel - which again, are not rodents. It took me two minutes to double-check and debunk this.

Snivy also doesn't share Ekans' type.

Simisage doesn't share Infernape's type, and as such had much more design space to pull from. Darmanitan is also Fire-type, but is not just an ape - it also draws from Daruma dolls, hence its signature ability being called "Daruma Mode" in Japan.

And that is as far as its "dog" qualities go. Dogs and foxes may share a biological family, but they are not the same species. Learn the difference.
