The anime ends with DP for me. Though I'd gladly retcon his shitty finale and made Ash vs Paul the final battle.

DP's ending was perfect. If you have to lose, either make it really close or a blow out. The narrative concluded when Ash triumphed over Paul.

The worst endings were Johto, Unova and Kalos. Unova was a painful gag, but Johto and Kalos were bullshit losses. And if you end the anime at Johto, where Ash is Champion in the games, you could have moved on to rotating protagonists for future animes.

Dawn and Brock parting was done perfectly.

I liked first visual style and Brock a lot.
But, to me, pokemonime doesn't died with last episode of Diamond and Pearl. Instead it went into long three year coma until the very end of Best Wishes.

And after brilliant XY&Z, with the start of Sun&Moon, pokemonime series went into serious coma again, and now it seems to be absolutely dead (with a few exceptions in form of "I Choose You" and "The Power of Us" movies).

But maybe, just maybe, pokemonime will be resurrected again in november 2019, when Generation 8 anime arc will started to air. I'm looking forward to that.

the gs ball arc being written out of the johto season is what made young me quit watching forever out of disgust. at that point, it was like watching paint dry compared to the fox kids and toonami lineups.
i have no idea how grown adults on this board can still watch this crap all these years later. it was never any good to begin with.

That Donphan is from the hybrid age where only the character art was digitally done, the backgrounds were still cel. Note that it was colored to still look like cel animation. Gen IV had plastic hyper saturation in everything for no reason.

SuMo's background art is great, the best ever in the digital Pokemon age.

I was still in my teen when DP ended. Sure it was always bad the anime but probabily I would have kept watching maybe if BW didn't kill the continuity, rebooted Ash and in general dropped the quality even for the pokemon anime. XY was better, but still it had nothing to do with the old anime and felt a separate thing, so I can't enjoy that. SM is pure garbage. The Anime just had to stay on the level of DP to be semi-decent and watchable for old fans I think, at least for me is so. It just seems today is totally non-relevant. Not that relevancy=quality, don't get me wrong, but compare SM to OS. The anime was kinda big back then, and it mantained ( even if only for a portion, no doubt about that) its relevancy even post Orange till DP. Today it kinda seems really just forgotten.

I remember the end of Johto when Brock and Misty left and Ash had to climb out of some hole with spoons or something. I don't know, made me almost cry tho. Then Advanced whatever happened and Brock game back and I was like "oh, then what was the point of the whole emotional climbing out of a whole episode? I guess Misty is still gone, but like, still. Eh~"

And I don't remember anything after that.

Original Ash definitely ended with DP. The seasons past that with Ash's redesign and even a complete reset to his character take place in a separate universe in my headcanon.

Actually Red isn't champion of anything. It became champion of the Indigo Plateau, yes, but afterward he must have rejected/lost the chair because the Champion in GSC is Lance.

They tried with BW but they realized it was a mistake so they went full force trying to connect everything together. ICY's ending pretty much also says that OS-XY is all connected at least.

They probably thought people wouldn't bother going to see the movie for Celebi if Celebi was also going to be in the anime beforehand, which is also why you don't usually see Mythicals show up in the anime before they show up in a movie.

Again, the problem really lied with BW trying to pull a soft reboot but failing hard at it, then needing to connect it all together. What makes it worse is that BW was directed by the same guy that did DP. With XY/&Z they have some references to DP and it connects to BW. As for SM, the director already said they're developing Ash after XY/&Z but in order to make sense of everything that's going on Ash's VA has to headcanon that Ash never traveled more than Kanto in order to act him out in SM at all.

Anyway, for me that would be at either the closing ceremony of the Indigo League or the original group parting at the crossroads. Johto still had some good episodes but was losing that consistent, nuanced quality that the Kanto arc had. However, it did work to show how this ragtag group became proper friends and began to all mature a bit and think of proper goals, so it might still be worth it to watch just for a better resolution.
