>>37474005I wouldn't say Minecraft reached Pokemon levels. It just seems bigger than it is because it thriving in an era that has an epidemic of autism and every facet of your life is connected by the Internet. The game being bought by Microsoft and sold to schools will probably solidify its presence for decades to come though. At the end of it all they get like a Minecraft convention .
In comparison, Pokemon had to take advantage of every media platform to advertise to kids. The card game, anime, video games, movie, toys. I was poor as hell and grew up in the Filipino boonies and still read English novelizations of Pokemon episodes. Events were and had to be hosted locally even events today require some local presence (Gamestop codes, Pokemon Center exclusive merchandise), which can easily be done online but traditionally aren't. I can't even imagine the work that went into systematically brainwashing a generation of manchildren just to sell them LGPE 20 years later.
